Call for proposals for an evaluation partner

Posted: 7th July 2023

On behalf of the South Yorkshire Integrated Care Boards’ Community Diagnostic Centres Group, the South Yorkshire Innovation Hub is inviting bids from suppliers to evaluate the new community diagnostic centres in South Yorkshire.

The community diagnostic centres (CDCs) are part of a government funded initiative that aims to provide diagnostic tests closer to home. They aim to be one-stop shops for tests, checks and scans to help cut waiting lists, reduce non-attendance and reduce the need for hospital visits.

108 CDCs have opened nationally since July 2021 in a variety of settings including shopping centres, car parks, community hospitals and university campuses. The government plans to open 160 across England by March 2025, with £2.3bn invested in new diagnostic services.

Four CDCs are being set up in South Yorkshire which will provide a variety of tests including breast scans, ultrasound, x-rays, respiratory tests and MRI.

Sarah Dew, Programme Director of South Yorkshire’s Innovation Hub said, “We are very pleased to be supporting the South Yorkshire CDC Group in this important piece of work that will look at the effectiveness of our local CDCs in reducing patient waiting lists, improving patient experience and helping to reduce  health inequalities. This evaluation will be a critical tool to help the ICB learn from the CDC model and make evidence informed decisions about the future of the programme. We look forward to receiving proposals from suppliers that will help us in this work”.

The first two CDCs in South Yorkshire were set up in the Glassworks shopping centre in Barnsley and on the site of the Montagu Hospital in Mexborough in early 2021.

The call for proposals is now open.
