Yorkshire & Humber Partners Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) Ltd is one of 15 AHSNs set up to create and harness a strong, purposeful partnership between patients, health services, industry, and academia. We exist to drive the adoption of innovation and improvement into the NHS, enable improvements in clinical outcomes, deliver better patient experiences, and stimulate wealth creation.
Working as a national network, AHSN-led initiatives such as the NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) and SBRI Healthcare have together secured savings to the NHS of over £42m. By connecting the NHS with innovators not only have the AHSNs enabled the development of solutions to some of the most challenging problems in healthcare, we have stimulated economic growth. Since 2013 AHSNs have enabled £330m of investment, creating over 500 jobs in the UK economy.
Now, having reached the end of our initial and successful five-year licence, we are evolving to be ready for the future. Success over our next licence will require us to be even more delivery focused for our local and national partners, always with the patient at the heart of everything that we do. With national funding from NHS England, NHS Improvement, and the Office of Life Sciences to deliver programmes on innovation spread, patient safety and economic growth the role of the AHSN is complex, with multiple stakeholders and contracts from the NHS, Academia, Government, Industry and others.
