Stakeholder Workshop

October 8 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The IMPRESS network would like to invite stakeholders to assist with research at the University of Leeds focusing on women’s experiences of urinary incontinence

It is estimated that one in three women experience involuntary loss of urine, or urinary incontinence (UI). The consequences are profound, with potentially devastating impacts on physical, social and economic well-being. UI is also a costly condition; it has been found that annual expenditures are similar to other chronic diseases in women. To date little is known about the experiences, needs and coping strategies of those affected. As the experience of lacking voluntary control over urination can evoke feelings of embarrassment and shame, many women affected by incontinence do not seek medical assistance, and if they do, diagnosis can be difficult. Healthcare technologies that can improve quality of life often are out of reach due to resource constraints, gendered sociocultural norms and a lack of institutional infrastructure

A research team led by Dr Dani Barrington and sponsored by IMPRESS will run a Stakeholder Workshop on Monday 8th October at two times – lunchtime (12pm – 2pm) and then again early evening (6pm – 8pm)

This workshop is aimed at healthcare professionals, carers, industry, NGOs and charities

If you have a working knowledge of this subject area then we would very much appreciate your contributions

A separate workshop is being organised specifically for women experiencing UI but they are also welcome to attend this Stakeholder Workshop should they wish to do so

Please contact Dani at d.j.barrington@leeds.ac.uk if you are able to attend one of sessions
