Exploring how digital tools can help outpatient departments

Posted: - 6th November 2019

Outpatient transformation is an ambitious challenge within the Long Term Plan. Harnessing new and tested innovations is vital for the NHS to meet the challenges presented in this area.

This year, we held 15 Innovation Exchange events on various topics to explore challenges faced by our local health and care systems and promote better understanding of these among industry innovators, so they are better prepared to do business with the NHS.

Our digital outpatient event is one example of how we bring together the NHS and industry innovators.

The event explored how the use of digital tools could help improve services in outpatient departments.

Delivered in partnership with NHS Improvement, the event provided an opportunity for a diverse range of NHS staff to discuss priorities for outpatient services and look at how improvements can be made with the wealth of digital innovation that is available.

It also enabled innovators to showcase their work and demonstrate the value their solutions could bring to the NHS.

In line with the Long Term Plan’s aims of reducing the number of outpatient appointments, we are continuing to work with local stakeholders to articulate areas of need  and present solutions which allow for virtual consultation, digital triage and remote monitoring.
