New project supporting Immersive Technology (XR) workforce training

Yorkshire & Humber Academic Health Science Network (AHSN), North East North Cumbria AHSN and UCL Partners are supporting Health Education England’s Emerging/Immersive Technology (XR) programme. The AHSNs will provide support through a project focused on three key areas:

Infrastructure and Innovation
Real world evidence
Workforce Implications

The new project will help both innovators who are working in this area, and the workforce who want to understand more about how XR can support their training and learning needs; along with the potential opportunity to test and implement the technology within their workplace.

As part of this workstream, the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN, alongside its partners, will be hosting an event on 20 May to launch the programme. The event will predominantly be aimed at innovators who are working in the field of XR workforce training and will inform them of the project; whilst offering an introduction to the support and help that the AHSNs can offer.

Immersive technology is starting to take real momentum in workforce training across many industries, and helping to realise the benefits it can bring to the Health system is a fantastic opportunity. We want to build on the great work HEE have already started in this area and hopefully bring some of the AHSN experience around wider spread and adoption.”

Neil Ralph – Head of Technology, Enhanced Learning Programme at Health Education England said,

“We are delighted to be working with three AHSNs on this project. This work allows us to integrate closely with the AHSN’s current offer to innovators, including the support they can provide to find implementation sites, navigate funding opportunities and support with real world evaluation. This project will complement the work that Health Education England set out in our National Strategic Vision for simulation and immersive technologies in health and care and it is a great example of collaborative working.”
