Propel@YH US Boot Camp cohort announced

Posted: 15th March 2022

Five SMEs have been selected for Yorkshire & Humber AHSN’s Propel@YH Boot Camp accelerator with featured products ranging from a mental health app to a workflow manager that quickly identifies life-threatening sepsis in patients.

The selected cohort are:

  • Televeda; an online hub for older adults to combat social isolation.
  • Musical Health Technologies; ‘SingFit’ is an award-winning music app designed to improve wellbeing.
  • Behavidence; an app that helps users achieve great mental wellbeing through the use of daily feedback based on a user’s digital behaviour.
  • Luminare; their workflow management programme, Sagitta, helps hospitals identify sepsis quicker and ensures timely treatment.
  • Lab Ready; the world’s first and only automated system that collects and stores bacterial samples for a faster and a more confident diagnosis.

With support from the Department of International Trade, the Propel@YH Boot camp is a week-long accelerator programme, starting on 21st March, for companies based in the US who want to bring their products to the UK healthcare market.

The programme builds on the success of our Propel@YH digital accelerator programme, which is now in its third year, and will provide US-based innovators with access to five days of intensive support, knowledge and engagement with UK healthcare experts.

The SMEs will take part in a range of masterclasses, workshops and networking events such as understanding how the NHS works, NHS governance, finance and procurement frameworks, clinical safety and supplier regulations, developing evidence-based proposals and reimbursement models.

The companies will also have access to our Propel@YH partners who bring specific expertise to the programme including:

  • Barclays Eagle Labs
  • Hill Dickinson
  • Nexus, University of Leeds
  • Leeds City Council

Alongside this, innovators will be able to attend the AHSN Network’s Bridging the Gap event which is specifically for HealthTech innovators and takes place in Leeds during the week-long Boot Camp.

Neville Young, Director of Enterprise and Innovation at the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN said:

“Thanks to the support from the Department of International Trade and our Propel@YH partners we are able to offer this short but intensive programme to international SMEs looking to gain access to the UK healthcare market. This programme builds on the success of our main digital accelerator programme, Propel@YH.

“The aim of the programme is to secure investment and jobs by attracting great US healthech businesses with a high growth potential into our region as part of our mission to support economic growth and improve the health and wellbeing of our population.

“If we can successfully support these innovators to establish themselves in Yorkshire, we can use the great regional assets we have available to us (staff, real estate, finance), and the strength of the AHSN Network to spread their innovations across the country, securing investment, jobs and health and wellbeing benefits for the whole of the UK.

“It’s great to see interest from global companies wanting to bring their products to the UK, particularly here in Yorkshire and the Humber and we hope to be able to host more boot camps for other international businesses in the future.”
