Working with West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership, we are helping to deliver guidance on vital testing for people suffering from a mini stroke (TIA) or a suspected TIA during the COVID-19 pandemic to GP practices within the region.

Many people suffering from a mini stroke (TIA) will have an ECG test to determine whether the stroke or suspected stroke is linked to Atrial Fibrillation. As more healthcare services are being offered remotely due to COVID-19, we have been looking at ways these tests can be delivered in this way.

We have identified different devices which can help with remote testing, these include devices that can be delivered directly to a patients’ home for them to use and then send directly to laboratories for analysis, with results sent directly to GPs.

We have shared this work across the rest of Yorkshire and Humber and as an AHSN Network we are sharing individual AHSN experiences within our regions and looking at ways we can further support the NHS with access to remote ECG monitoring.

This work also links to our Atrial Fibrillation programme which aims to prevent life changing strokes and the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Healthy Hearts project which aims to reduce a person’s risk of cardiovascular disease – a leading cause of strokes and heart attacks.
