Working together to spread innovation in the NHS

The Health Innovation Exchange portal is newly expanded following a partnership between the Yorkshire & Humber Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) and the Innovation Agency (the AHSN for the North West Coast).

The new Health Innovation Exchange provides an online platform for NHS staff and industry innovators across the health and care sector to connect, share and showcase new innovations to improve patient outcomes and experiences, provide cost-effective solutions and accelerate the delivery of safer, better care.

It enables NHS staff to easily search for innovations that will help them in their day to day work whilst providing companies with access to a wider audience and exposure for their products, services and solutions.

Both the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN and Innovation Agency have been operating separate Health Innovation Exchange portals successfully for more than a year. Merging the two portals increases coverage across the north of England by enabling innovations added to the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN’s portal to be visible on the Innovation Agency’s portal and vice versa.

Other refinements include:

  • The introduction of four tiers indicating the technology readiness level of an innovation, ranging from proven products and services through to new ways of working and support networks available for innovators.
  • An improved search function, including the ability to search by category and tier
  • Users can now receive notifications of new projects added within specific categories

Richard Stubbs, Chief Executive Officer at Yorkshire & Humber AHSN, said: “Nearly everyone has a great idea to share about how we can improve the care we give but, all too often, they have no way of sharing these great ideas.

“This new, expanded Health Innovation Exchange is a simple, accessible way for us to share what works, create communities with common interests and grow a database of innovation for the benefit of health and social care across for Yorkshire and Humber and the North West.”

Products and services on the Health Innovation Exchange are robustly reviewed by members of the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN, the Innovation Agency and clinical experts. This ensures that only the innovations with the most capacity and potential for impact on the healthcare system are featured and signposted to NHS care providers.
